Permanent Rose by Hilary McKay

Hi everyone! Sorry I’ve been posting so late (right now it’s 9:25 pm my time). Today I decided to bring you another book review. This book I actually just finished late last night. It’s called Permanent Rose. The author Hilary McKay has actually made a series and this book is I think about the second one. The first one is called Forever After Caddy.

This story is told from the point of Rose or her birth name Permanent Rose. She’s the youngest child and is home alone a lot of the time. All her older siblings are either moved out or gone most of the time. But at least someone has to be there with her since she’s only 8 years old. Caddy is the oldest daughter who is engaged to a driving instructor named Micheal. She isn’t so sure about it though. Saffy or Saffron is the next daughter. She has a best friend named Sarah who is in a wheel chair most of the time and goes everywhere with Saffy. Saffron is looking for her biological father. Indigo is the first and only son. He loves to read and play guitar. He has a friend David who loves to play the drums and hangs out at the Casson household a lot of the time. Eve and Bill are the parents. Eve is an artist who spends most of her time in the garden shed turned art studio. She’s a bit strange at times but paints amazing pictures. She also paints hospital walls to help cheer up the patients. Bill lives in London and is divorced from Eve. Don’t worry, I haven’t given anything away. Oh! I almost forgot Tom. Tom is a friend of Indigo and Rose. Rose absolutely adores Tom who loves to play guitar. When Tom leaves for America, Rose is deeply saddened. Especially when Tom doesn’t contact in anyway. This isn’t much of a summary but more of a character review. If this sounds interesting I recommend finding the first book first and then going from there.
