What I’m Reading Wednesday’s!

Hi everyone! Today (the first day of my weekly event) I realized that I never posted the info post about this event. It was still in my drafts. Silly me! I guess you’ll just have to see. It’s simple and should hopefully be fun! Today I am showing off two books that I finished yesterday. I’m not reading them anymore so that kind of spoils that part of the event but I can’t write about the books I’ve barely started!

First Book: Indigo’s Star by Hilary McKay

I have reviewed Forever Rose for you guys and thought I had the order of the books down. It turns out I didn’t. Oh well.

This book is part of a 5 or so book series. It follows Indigo Casson who has to fall back into his routine after battling mono. He dreads going back to school and only his younger sister Rose knows why. The first day of school and many days after that, the evil gang and their red headed leader torment and tease Indigo. His days are boring and terrible. Until one day when Tom, an American joins his class. The gang changes their target and Tom makes two new friends and becomes part of the Casson family. He isn’t there to stay but while he is, he takes the world by storm with Permanent Rose and Indigo by his side.

My rating of the book out of 10: 9.5/10

Author facts:

1. Hillary McKay is 56 years old

2. Before writing she studied English, Zoology, and Botany at St. Andrews University.

3. Her first novel was The Exiles .

I recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure, family, and a bit of suspense. This book is a children’s book but really can be read by almost anyone.

Second Book: Vet Volunteers Fight For Life By Laurie Halse Anderson

This is the first book in a 16 book series with the 17th set to be published next year.

Summary: This book is told from the point of Maggie Mackenzie. Maggie lives with her grandmother who is a skilled veternarian who goes by Dr. Mac. Maggie is always welcomed to help the injured or sick animals that find their way into the veternarian office. That is until Maggie’s homework is piling up and her grades are slipping. Her grandmother is forced to put her on a short leash until her grades improve. Four new volunteers seem to take up Maggie’s role and make her jealous. When extremely sick, dehydrated and malnourished Collies and Labs find their way to Dr. Mac, Maggie has to track down the cold hearted person who sold these puppies to people at a local farmers market. Nothing seems like it can get worse until her rich cousin Zoe comes to stay with them while her actress mother is busy in Los Angeles. Read this story to find out what happens to Maggie and who is behind the puppy mill.

My rating: 10/10

Author facts:

1. Laurie has loved to write since second grade.

2. She started out writing picture books.

3. Her first novel Speak, was made into a film with Kristan Stewart playing the main character.

I recommend this book for anyone that absolutely loves animals, adventure, and victory. This book is for ages 10 and up so anyone 10 and up can read it.
