Creative Challenge: New and Old

Hello everyone! This is my 90th post! I can’t believe how fast it’s gone. Once again, it’s time for Creative Challenges Day! If you are unfamiliar with this twice weekly event, then here’s the run down: Creative Challenges is an event hosted by the amazing Cynthia Dawn. One of her challenges is for everyone, the other is an exclusive thing for email subscribers only. Every Tuesday and Friday Cynthia sends out a email with a prompt. You just take the prompt and write a story based on a personal experience or like I do, with a fictional character.

Today’s 1st Prompt: Write a story where the high culture (older times) and popular or pop culture (Current day) collide.

My story:

Sawyer Jacobsen sits quietly listening to his radio. It was 1966 and he had just gotten a FM radio for his birthday. All his friends had gotten there own radio a few years ago but Sawyer’s family wasn’t exactly rich. It took his parents quite a while to get together enough money. Now he could listen to all the music he wanted, not just at  his friends houses. Boris and Mark had been teasing him for ages about not owning a radio. He would show them. His junior high teacher had given him a load of homework and he had been working on it endlessly for almost an hour now. The Beattles and the Rolling Stones were Sawyer’s absolute favorites and they had been playing quite a lot. Suddenly a strange song started playing. “This is Miley Cyrus singing Wrecking Ball.” Sawyer put down his pencil and listened. His eyes got bigger and bigger. His mom would never let him listen to something like this. The Beattles and Rolling Stones would never sing something as preposterous as this. Sawyer grabbed his radio and ran to find his mom. He had to have her listen to this mysterious song. It sounded like something from another world.

Thanks for reading and Stay tuned for more. I’m not sure if I will be able to do a second Creative Challenge like I normally do. I’ll try but I can’t promise anything.
