Book Review| I Am The Messenger

Hey everyone! It’s Sunday and I’m actually doing a post. Today I am finally reviewing I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak; author of The Book Thief. This is a teen book and a brilliant one at that. Let’s get started!

Title: I Am The Messenger

Author: Markus Zusak

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Young Adult

# of pages: 360

My Rating: 5/5 stars

Goodreads Rating: 4.09/5 stars

Amazon Rating: 4.3/5 stars

Goodreads Summary:

Ed Kennedy is an underage cabdriver without much of a future. He’s pathetic at playing cards, hopelessly in love with his best friend, Audrey, and utterly devoted to his coffee-drinking dog, the Doorman. His life is one of peaceful routine and incompetence until he inadvertently stops a bank robbery.

That’s when the first ace arrives in the mail.

That’s when Ed becomes the messenger.

Chosen to care, he makes his way through town helping and hurting (when necessary) until only one question remains: Who’s behind Ed’s mission?

My Thoughts:

From page one, I Am The Messenger had me glued to the pages. There was so much suspense and action. As it progressed, new characters were introduced in such detail that I felt like I knew them. Ed Kennedy, the main character is such a great guy! At first I was confused about The Doorman. I thought it was an actual doorman… really it’s Ed’s old dog. Once the first card arrives, Ed’s life is turned upside down. For the better and the worse. I loved this book to bits. There was so much imagery and detail to it. You felt what Ed felt in each and every situation. I without a doubt recommend this book!!

That’s a wrap! What are your thoughts on I Am The Messenger? Let me know!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more book reviews!

Top Ten Tuesday|Rewind

Hey everyone! It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday! This weekly meme is hosted by the wonderful people @ The Broke and the Bookish. Go check them out for all things bookish and fun! This week’s topic is pretty free and unlimited.

Top Ten Tuesday REWIND — go back and do a topic you missed over the years or recently or a topic you really want to revisit

I have decided to do Top Ten WOW endings. It was done in April of 2013.

Top Ten WOW Endings: *NO SPOILERS INCLUDED*

  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows  by JK Rowling Ending

This ending was WOW in terms of name choices and so much more.I don’t want to spoil anything since some still haven’t read the Harry Potter series!

No rush 😀

2.The Everything,Everything by Nicola Yoon ending

Everything, Everything

This ending was one of the best I have ever read. It was a plot twist I didn’t see coming. If you haven’t read Everything,Everything, I definitely recommend it!

3.The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

This ending could’ve been seen coming but it was still shocking and so,so sad. If you haven’t read The Book Thief, you definitely need to!

4. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

And Then There Were None

We read this book in school. It was such a suspenseful and pretty creepy book. The ending was strange and left some open ends to it. If you love mystery books, this is one for you.

5. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins ending

Mockingjay: Movie Tie-In Edition (The Hunger Games, Book 3) (Hunger Games Trilogy) by [Collins, Suzanne]
I thought this ending would have a lot more to it. It had an abrupt ending which was the most shocking. If you love tons of action, this book is for you!

6. Insurgent by Veronica Roth ending

Insurgent (Divergent, #2)
This ending was a huge plot twist!! It changed everything. I haven’t read Allegiant and really don’t plan to. The ending left tons of open ends for me. If you love suspense, action and adventure, this book is for you!
I guess I only got 6 books!

That’s a wrap!! I sure hope I didn’t forget anything! Comment any books that I forgot that would’ve been on your list.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for next week’s Top Ten Tuesday!

Book Review: The Book Thief

Hey everyone! It’s Friday and time for another book review.  Today I am finally doing a review of The Book Thief by Mark Zusak. Let’s get started!

Title: The Book Thief

Author: Markus Zusak

Genre: Historical Fiction

# of pages: 592

My Rating: 5/5 stars

Goodreads Rating: 4.4/5 stars

Amazon Rating: 4.6/5 stars

Amazon Summary:

It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still.

Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.

Editorial Reviews (Credit Given):

“An extraordinary narrative.”
School Library Journal, Starred

“Exquisitely written and memorably populated, Zusak’s poignant tribute to words, survival, and their curiously inevitable entwinement is a tour de force to be not just read but inhabited.”
The Horn Book Magazine, Starred

“This hefty volume is an achievement…a challenging book in both length
and subject…”
Publisher’s Weekly, Starred

My Thoughts:

The perspective of this book is so unique! A book told my Death. The writing had me from  the beginning. Liesel Meminger is such a great character. I loved seeing how she grew and what she encountered. Though I didn’t shed many tears, make sure to have tissues ready at the end. It’s absolutely heart breaking. This is one of the books that I wouldn’t hesitate to give a five star. I recommend it to anyone who loves a unique, historical fiction, action filled book.

That’s a wrap! I extremely recommend The Book Thief if you haven’t read it already. If you have read it, what are your thoughts on it? *NO SPOILERS* Let me know in the comments 🙂

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more book reviews!

Library Book Haul (#4)

Hey everyone! It’s Monday and that means another library book haul! I apologize for not blogging daily the last few days. I guess I’m not good at keeping a streak. I also apologize for the late post. Enough with my excuses. As you can tell by the title, a library book haul is a haul where I show off my library books. This time I have 5 books to show off!

FullSizeRender (1)

*All Book Titles will be linked to their Goodreads page.*

  1. As Brave as You by Jason Reynolds

As Brave As YouGoodreads

I don’t know if I’ll read this book. I started it but put it down due to the number of times the word “poop” was mentioned. I might give it another shot. It sounds interesting. Just doesn’t have the best beginning.

2. Mistress Pat by L.M. Montgomery

Mistress Pat (Pat, #2)Goodreads (Not the edition I got)

This is another series written by the author of the Anne Shirley series that I have begun to read. The library was out of all of the Anne books except the sixth one. I noticed Montgomery had more books and decided to get them. This is a sequel to Pat of Silver Bush that I am reading now.

3. Ethan, Suspended by Pamela Ehrenberg

Ethan, SuspendedGoodreads

The summary sounded interesting and it will be a nice short read. It doesn’t have the best Goodreads rating but I’ll have to see if I enjoy it or not.

4. The Book Thief by Mark Zusak

The Book Thief

I’m finally going to read The Book Thief! I’ve been going back and forth about reading this and now I finally will. This will be the only book I’ll be doing a review for so stay tuned for that!

5. Pat of Silver Bush by L.M Montgomery

Pat of Silver Bush (Pat, #1)Goodreads (Not the edition I got)

This is book one of what seems to be only a two book series. I am reading this right now and enjoy it a lot. I jumped at the chance of reading more of Montgomery’s books since I am joying the Anne Shirley series so far. So far, I’m not disappointed.

That’s a wrap! Have you read any of these books? What did you think? Let me know! This book haul consisted of one YA and four tween books.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more Library Book Hauls!!
