Hype Or Like Friday (#1)|Apocalypse

Hey everyone! It’s Friday and time for a brand new meme. This meme is created by Larkin, Britt and Jill. Go check out these amazing blogs 🙂 This meme is based around talking about hyped books. The genres range from contemporary to fantasy.  Go to the memes Goodreads group here for more information. August is Harry Potter month so every topic/question is Harry Potter based. This week’s topic is:

Imagine it’s the apocalypse, whatever magic is left in the Wizarding World is slowly diminishing, and you need to assemble a team to help you survive. Which 5 characters would you choose for your team, what roles would they play (i.e. Team Leader, Most Cunning, Most Skilled, etc.), and how would they help you survive. You can do whatever you want with this topic. Get creative and have fun with it.

My Team:

1. Team Leader: Oliver Wood

Oliver was a great Quidditch team leader. He would be able to make strategic plans on how to stay alive and safe. Oliver would also be able to keep us together when times get tough.

2. Most Skilled: Harry Potter

Harry dodged death several times. He would be able to go into life or death situations if it helped the team’s survival. Harry would be the one to possibly risk his life for others.

3. Most Cunning: Dumbledore

Dumbledore helped Harry  dodge Voldemort several times. He would be able to plot out plans on how to attack any threats. Dumbledore is very wise so he would know what to do in a live or death situation.

4. Best Potion Maker: Snape

Snape taught the Potions class at Hogwarts. He would be able to whip up important potions to help the team survive and escape risky situations.

5. Resource Gatherer: Ron Weasley

Ron loves food. He would be in charge of gathering resources including food and water. Ron would be able to find resources where it seems scarce. He would be a very important part of survival.

That’s a wrap!! Who would be on your team? Did you enjoy this first post? If yes, would you like to see more? Let me know all this in the comments!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more Hype or Like Fridays if you guys enjoy it.

Friendly Discussion Friday (#3) EBooks?

Hey everyone! It’s Friday. Today you get two posts 🙂 I hope you’ve had a great week so far and can have a relaxing weekend. It’s time for another Friendly Discussion Friday. I’ve done two posts so far. You can find them here:

#1: Cover Influence #2: Hardcover or Paperback?

Today’s topic is going to be:

Books

Some people believe that physical books will eventually melt away. EBooks will be the only form of book. Yet others believe that physical books will always be around no matter how big EBooks get. Last year, physical books and ebooks took turns falling and rising in popularity.

My Opinion?

I haven’t read a single ebook and don’t plan too. I’ve always loved print books and refuse to read a book off of a tablet or Kindle. I love print books because:

  • You can physically turn the pages
  • The book doesn’t need to be charged
  • There’s something satisfying about holding a real book
  • Your eyes don’t get tired from staring at a screen

As you can probably guess, I’m physical/print books all the way

What Do You Think?

Do you agree with me? If so, why?

If you disagree, what makes you like ebooks more?

If you’re stuck in the middle, why?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

That’s a wrap! This was a great topic to do since it’s a topic that lots of people think about. Where do you stand?

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more Friendly Discussion Fridays!

Friendly Discussion Fridays (#1)

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! I bet you’re wondering why I’m posting on a Friday. I almost never do that. I have decided to do a new meme type thing. This one is self-created. I have no idea how often these will be or if they will even stick around. It all depends if you guys enjoy it and give me great feedback. As you can guess by the title, this will be a meme where I go and discuss different things. It might be book related, it might be my thoughts on current events. These posts will just be a place for me to vent and share my thoughts and opinions. You’ll never know what I’ll be posting next!

I know so many bloggers do discussion posts. As always, I will be putting my own spin on it. To start us off, I have decided to talk about:

Topic-

I’m sure this topic has been done many times. I have yet to give my opinion in a post so I am going to now.

This question has a couple of answers for me. Sometimes a cover can really catch my eye.

Just because it has a brilliant cover, that doesn’t automatically seal the deal for me. The summary on the inside flap has to be interesting. The length can’t be too short. I’m a pretty fast reader so I can’t have a super short book. If the writing is in poetry form or clearly for younger kids, I won’t get it. I guess I’m pretty picky with my books.

For me, I won’t just get a book if the cover is beautiful. That definitely catches my eye though. The summary, length and style also have to be to my liking or else the book goes back on the shelf.

This post is pretty short and wasn’t planned out. If you guys (the readers) end up enjoying this, I will definitely put more time into this. What are your thoughts on this question/topic? Let me know!’

That’s a wrap! In order for this meme to continue, you guys have to give me feedback. Anything I can improve on? Do you think you’ll enjoy this? Is this a fail in your book? Let me know in the comments!!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more if the feedback is positive.

Book Review: Eleanor and Park

Hey everyone! It’s time for a book review! Before we jump into that, I just wanted to apologize. I want to apologize for not doing the Top Ten Tuesday this week. I will definitely do it next week so stay tuned for that! This week I am reviewing Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. This is a popular YA book so I’m sure you guys will enjoy it 😀 Without further ado, let us jump to it.

“Eleanor was right. She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”

Eleanor and Park is a YA book by Rainbow Rowell. The book is 329 pages. I rate it a 4.5/5 stars. Goodreads rates this book a 4.1/5 stars and Amazon rates it a  4.5/5 stars. A couple of reasons I rated Eleanor and Park 4.5/5 was:

  1. Several times, I questioned their love for each other
  2. Eleanor and Park were pretty harsh with each other at times.
  3. They are so darn cute!

Amazon Summary:

Bono met his wife in high school, Park says.
So did Jerry Lee Lewis, Eleanor answers.
I’m not kidding, he says.
You should be, she says, we’re 16.
What about Romeo and Juliet?
Shallow, confused, then dead.
I love you, Park says.
Wherefore art thou, Eleanor answers.
I’m not kidding, he says.
You should be.

Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits-smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love-and just how hard it pulled you under.

Real Reviews:

Sarah Parks- “One of my favorite books! For younger readers, there’s a bunch of language and some sexual stuff and abuse. But for teens and above, it is a great book about dealing with self image issues, dealing with abuse, and finding yourself.” 5 star review

Karen Wright- “This is the 3rd Rowell novel I’ve read and I’m starting to fall in love with her writing. I get why she has a huge fan base now.

The story of Eleanor and Park is about two sixteen year old kids who both start off needing to be rescued in different ways. The narrative flips between the two perspectives but each view is so short there is no time lost going back and forth so the novel flows freely in real time.
I loved and hated the characters appropriately, I liked that although a whole host of secondary characters were introduced, they had poignant but minor roles so they added to instead of detracted from the story.
Intriguing, well-written book. Written for YA crowd but enjoyable to older readers too. I give it 4.5 stars.”  4.5 star review

Sandi K- “I am so conflicted about this book. It is very well written. The characters are well drawn and feel real. The story was just so hard to read. By that I mean, the cruelty that is the base of this book was so troubling. I did not want to finish it because I was so afraid of what was going to happen next. I don’t want to read a book where I fall in love with characters but their life sucks so bad that you ache for them. While the language was probably appropriate for the characters and situation, I got tired of the profanity and the crudeness. I know this type of situation is real but it is not want I want to read about for entertainment. So overall, I commend the writing (this is my fourth Rainbow Rowell book) but the story was just too much for me.” 3 star review

My Thoughts:

This was such a good book! It was an emotional roller coaster and definitely kept me reading. There was some sexual content and definitely some language. Abuse and a bit of violence is also included. I don’t recommend it if you can’t handle any of these. What confused me a bit was how throughout the story, Eleanor and Park seemed to hate then dislike each other a bit throughout the story. I loved seeing other minor characters show up. I felt so bad for Eleanor though. She was treated badly by her step dad, bullied by those at school and even Park’s mom doesn’t accept her at first. I go back and forth with this book but loved it overall. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves a good teenage love story.

That’s a wrap! How did you like this slightly different format? Let me know!

Have you read Eleanor and Park? If you have, I’d love to hear what you thought. No spoilers of course!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more book reviews.

Back To The Future Day!

Hi everyone! Today is October 21st, 2015, the day that Marty McFly traveled to in Back to The Future II.

image image

The funny thing is that pretty much nothing has happened now that has happened in BTTFII. There are hover boards that don’t float continuously and flying cars cease to exist.

What are your thoughts about the movie v.s. the reality of 2015? Comment below!
