Writing 101 Day #7 (Late): Hook Em With a Quote!

Hey everyone! Writing 101 ended on October 2nd but I’m still slowly but surely trying to get through all of the assignments still. If you’re unfamiliar with this course, check out the link here. Today’s objective is to use a quote to start off your post.

“It’s our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” -J.K. Rowling

I chose a J.K. Rowling quote since I recently finished the first Harry Potter book.

To me, this quote means that what you do, shows who you are as a person more then what you can do.

Being nice to someone overpowers being able to do 3 backflips

Not hanging out with the wrong crowd is better then being able to shoot a basket from the half court line.

Blogging honestly is better then being able to post 5-6 posts a day that aren’t even true.

This may seem a bit cheesy but it’s all true. J.K. Rowling couldn’t have said it any better. People will pay attention more to what you choose to do than what you did in the talent show or at the competition.

Thanks for reading and Stay tuned for more Writing 101!

Writing 101 Day #6 (Late): Space to Work

Hello everyone. As I mentioned in a quick post, I will be trying to do and finish up Writing 101 and Blogging 201 ASAP even though both are over. If you are unfamiliar with this course check out the link here. Today`s prompt is to describe the space you write in. Normally I write in my bedroom. Believe it or not, all I use is my iPad and my notebook dedicated to my blog. I like it to be as quiet as possible though I do enjoy listening to Pandora while writing. Occasionally like I am now, I write on a computer at the local library. I don’t have access to a good quality computer so this is the next best thing. It’s fairly quiet at the library which makes for good solid writing. Google is my friend for any research and pictures. I haven’t figured out how to do fancy pictures and headings because 99% of the good quality programs require a computer. My space isn’t anything fancy but it is what helps shape this blog into what it is today.

We are required to insert a poll at the end of this and collect ideas for future posts for a few weeks. I will do a week or so at the most and try to check back often. Please be honest on what you would like to see.

Thanks for reading and Stay tuned for more!

Get In The Know: September 2015

It’s time for the monthly “Get in The Know” Newsletter for September 2015. This newsletter was created last month and is used to update and inform you guys (viewers and followers) on what’s going on and will be going on on my blog.

– Random Reads is now at 79 followers!

Thank you so much guys! I can’t believe how far this blog has gotten in such a short amount of time.

– This blog has been going for 4 months now (or 3 depending how you look at it.)

On June 23rd 2015, Random Reads (Originally Readersandmore) started. It was all inspired by Genie Wishes written by Elisabeth Daul. I highly recommend it!

– So far, Random Reads has gotten 170 views in this month alone.

Wow! 170 views is a lot for just this month!

-I recently posted my 90th post.

Time has really flown! It seems like just yesterday that I was posting my very first post. Now I am at 94 posts as of now.

– I have been participating in Writing 101 and Blogging 201.

These are both great courses hosted by WordPress or more specifically, Daily Post. I’m pretty behind on th tasks for both of these so you will be seeing more of these very soon. I encourage you to sign up for either Blogging 101, Blogging 201, or Writing 101. Blogging 101 and 201 can not be taken at the same time.

– So far this year, people from the United States alone have viewed this blog 420 times.

United States has the top views but people in everywhere from the U.S. to Australia and in between have been viewing my posts. It’s hard to believe that people from all over the world have been viewing and enjoying my content.

– New Schedule Update

My new school year schedule went effective August 31st. If you would like to see the full schedule, check out the link here. So far, the schedule has been fairly effective. I sometimes go outside the schedule lines, but otherwise all is well. Nothing can fix the fact that sometimes I have to post later at night or schedule a post for 8 AM. Life is busy.

– According to the Posts and Pages stats, you guys love Awards and Challenges.

I will be doing the 3 Days 3 Quotes Challenge for the 3rd time pretty soon. I also have an always growing list of other Tags, Challenges and Awards to get through. Stay tuned for those!

That’s about all! This month and the end of August has been pretty eventful and productive. Let me know in the comments what you think of the Monthly Newsletter and if I need to do anything to make it more interesting and fun. I’ll take any suggestions and ideas into consideration.

Thanks for reading and Stay tuned for next month’s edition of “Get in The Know.”

Writing 101 Day #5: Twitter Inspiration

Hello everyone! Today I will be doing Day 5 of Writing 101. If you are unfamiliar with this 4 week course, then I suggest that you check out the link here. I am currently trying to catch up on my Writing 101. These were sent out a while ago. Today’s objective is to take a Twitter quote post from the ones that have been provided and respond to it.

My chosen Twitter quote:

My response: I 100% agree with this quote from Lev Grossman. I am still trying to get a novel started but can’t get enough motivation to start. Novelists have the hardest time with writing in my opinion. Not because they are terrible with it, but because they have to deal with, think about, and write it all the time. Writers have to put a lot more thought into what they are writing and/or typing then others. There obviously is some exceptions to this opinion but for the most part it’s true! Every good novelist struggles with writing and then succeeds. Nobody is perfect at first. That’s why it takes years to write an incredible novel.

What do you think about this quote? Do you agree or disagree? Tell me what you think and why below!

Writing 101 Day #2: Lists

Hello everyone! Today is Day #2 of Writing 101. If you didn’t see my post about Writing 101, I suggest you check out the link here. Today’s objective is to write a list about things I like, things I’ve learned, and things I wish. I’m going to do a List of 10 things I’ve learned from books in no particular order.

10 Things I’ve Learned from Books:

  1. Things are not as they always seem to be.

This means not to “judge a book” by its cover and take time to get to know the person. It can also apply to the context of secrets are hiding everywhere.

2. Loss of a family member can be turned into something good.

I don’t mean anything mean or bad by this. This means to me that when a loved one passes away, you can remember them by looking at old photos and sharing happy memories with others. Then you’ll hopefully feel a bit better.

3. Some people are stronger then they seem.

Dont judge someone by their apperance. Not everyone is strong physically but sometimes the ones that are the quietest and seemingly weakest are the ones that turn out stronger then the rest.

4. Friendship can be everything.

If you stay loyal and true to your friends, you will never be alone and will have someone to lean on through good and bad times. Only if they stay loyal as well. True friends don’t stab you in the back.

5. Even the “smartest” people have a lot more to learn.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Nobody is perfect no matter how perfect someone may seem.

6.  Friends can be found in the most unlikely places.

The people who seem extremely different can become your best friend. Anything is possible.

7. Not every person is who they seem to be.

Some people hide their true identities because of fear, insecurity, or regret. You might be surprised who someone turns out to be.

8. Perseverance is key.

Without perseverance, even every day life can get tough and complicated.

9. Never give up on your goal.

If you give up, you can miss something that could have changed you and/or your life forever.

10. Watch you back!

Don’t trust just anyone. If you do then it can come back and nip you in the heel later on.

These themes can all be found and applied in real life too.

Thanks for reading and Stay tuned for more!

Writing 101 Day #1: Why Do I Write?

Hello everyone! Today I am beginning Writing 101. If you want all the details about the four week course I suggest that you check out this link here or my previous post. Today’s prompt is: Why Do I Write? I am indeed doing this as a free write but will not be doing the 15-30 minute timer. I will just be writing as much as I can for as long as I want.

I write because it’s one of my passions. Writing helps me release my stress. My anger, and my happiness. I write to create. To create new characters that are as unique as you and me. I write for enjoyment. Writing story upon story filled with adventure, fantasy, and humor. Poems upon poems filled with lines, rhyme, and word play. Whether it be assigned or for fun, I throw everything I have into it. In terms of writing for my blog, I have been trying to plan ahead of time because of how much homework and how busy I already have/am. My first week of school has passed and I am going to do whatever I can to post as much as I can. I love to write about things that I enjoy and love. In my case that is books, reading and writing. On my blog I have written 70 posts including this one. Those 70 posts have been written since June 2015. My blog is an enjoyment but also a chore if I put too much on my plate at once. I try to make blogging something to look forward to, not to dread. The bottom line to all this is this: I write for enjoyment. I have loved to write for quite a long time and would love to be an author. I hope that everyone that reads my blog posts will learn something new, whether it be about me or the topic.

That’s it! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s topic plus Creative Challenges.
