If it’s a longer book, there’s a higher chance I’ll read it. Short books are definitely not my style.

Book Review| The Great American Whatever

Hey everyone! It’s time for another book review! This one is called The Great American Whatever by Tim Federle. It’s a newer young adult book. Let’s get started!

Title: The Great American Whatever

Author: Tim Federle

Image result

# of pages: 288

Genre: Young Adult, LGBT, Family Issues

Published Date: March 29th, 2016

Rating: 4/5 stars

Summary (From Amazon):

Quinn Roberts is a sixteen-year-old smart aleck and Hollywood hopeful whose only worry used to be writing convincing dialogue for the movies he made with his sister Annabeth. Of course, that was all before—before Quinn stopped going to school, before his mom started sleeping on the sofa…and before the car accident that changed everything.

Enter: Geoff, Quinn’s best friend who insists it’s time that Quinn came out—at least from hibernation. One haircut later, Geoff drags Quinn to his first college party, where instead of nursing his pain, he meets a guy—okay, a hot guy—and falls, hard. What follows is an upside-down week in which Quinn begins imagining his future as a screenplay that might actually have a happily-ever-after ending—if, that is, he can finally step back into the starring role of his own life story.

My Thoughts:

This was an overall good book. The characters were very detailed. The plot had some small issues but it was pretty enjoyable. I hope Tim Federle writes more YA books. You should definitely give this book a try.

That’s a wrap! I apologize for such  brief and vague thoughts.  Have you read this book? Are you going to? Let me know!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more book reviews!

Creative Challenges: Under The Sea Pt. 1 (#1)

Hey everyone! If you’ve been on my blog for a while, you’ll remember I used to do Creative Challenges. It’s a twice weekly challenge created by the wonderful @Cynthia Dawn. Go check her writing blog out 🙂 This challenge where you write a story based on the given prompt. It’s been my only weekly writing thing and I loved it. Then everything slowed down and I eventually stopped. Now it’s back and will hopefully be a frequent thing once again. This won’t be on a certain day, unless you guys would prefer that.  After reading the post, please comment if you would like to see more of these or not. All feedback is accepted!

This Week’s Prompt:

credit to Cynthia Dawn!!

My Story:

Once night, in the middle of November, the sea turned a strange color. All around, fish and other sea creatures went into complete chaos. As the black billow of color slowly descended downwards, bubbles raised towards the sky. A mermaid swam swiftly out of hiding. She had been in her secret home with her twelve brothers and ten brothers. Add her mom, dad, and pet dolphin Sky, and you had a total of 26 people in one place. Needless to say, Lulu the mermaid’s life was always full of craziness. One thing that hadn’t happened before was this strange billow. All the sea creatures gathered in the Sea Center to discuss what could be happening.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT WE SHOULD DO?!” Mayor Charles the Clownfish shouted into the seashell he used as a microphone. The sound decreased slightly and Mayor Charles spotted a stray flipper waving furiously.

Yes Shay?” Shay is a yellow seahorse. He’s known for his brilliant algae smoothie.

“I propose we send our swiftest explorers to investigate the billow.” Shay flashed a smile at the crowd.

“What a brilliant idea! Does anyone else have any other ideas?” The Mayor looked around and only saw anxious faces staring back at him. “All right then. We will have a sign up sheet on the announcement billboard in the Town Shell.”

Mayor Charles was relieved someone had actually spoken up. Normally he had to stare at the apprehensive crowd for hours on end. The Mayor was swimming home when he suddenly stopped. A sudden thought had burst into his mind. Nobody named Shay had ever lived in Seaweed Falls before. How had he never heard of this intelligent seahorse? Mayor Charles decided that it had slipped someone’s mind and he continued his journey home.

Meanwhile, behind a rock, came Lulu the mermaid sat thinking about Shay the seahorse as well. She had been a few rows back from Shay and didn’t think anything of him. These meetings were always so long and boring. When a flipper had risen confidently into the air, Lulu had been shocked! Nobody had ever put forth an idea, let alone at the beginning of the meeting. Lulu’s mind brimmed with thoughts. One particular one stood out to her: “Why had nobody ever seen or heard of Shay before?”

That’s a wrap for part 1! What do you think of the story? I am open to any feedback or suggestions you might have. Let me know if you would like to see more Creative Challenges and/or part 2 of Under The Sea!!

Thanks for reading and look out for more Creative Challenges.

Top Ten Tuesday: Facts About Me!

Hey everyone! Today is Tuesday and that means it’s time for another great Top Ten Tuesday’s. This meme is hosted by the wonderful and talented people @ The Broke and the Bookish! You definitely need to check them out if you haven’t already. This week’s topic is a bit different. It’s:

Ten Facts About Me (bookish or just general about you facts or ten facts about you as a blogger…whatever you want)

I think I’m going to do Ten General Facts About Me. It will float around topics depending on what I can think of. Here we go!!

Ten Facts About Me:

  1. I have two cats!

Their names are Trouble and Ali and they are sisters. They’re both tabby cats.

Ali is on the left and Trouble is on the right

2. I am obsessed with ice cream

I am one of those people who loves ice cream a little too much. I eat it no matter how cold it is. Call me crazy but that’s how I’ve always been.

3. I started reading chapter books in 1st grade

While others were struggling with the picture books, I was already reading my first chapter book. I remember it was a Junie B Jones book. Since then, I’ve loved reading.

4. My TV show obsessions are:

Right now I’m loving the show Bones. It’s a mystery/forensics/crime solving type of show. I love the characters and how they always get themselves involved in one crime or another. I also love the reality show Big Brother. It’s a show where 16 people live in a house away from the outside world. They compete in competitions and try to work towards half a million dollars. Big Brother is full of tons of drama. These are my main two obsessions right now.

5. I’ve never been out of the country

A dream of mine is to get out of the country and explore. I’d love to at least go to London and Ireland. For now, I’m just staying in the United States

6.  I’m really particular about what books I read

As I talked about in one of my Friendly Discussion Friday posts, I am very particular about what I read. I look at the cover, book length and writing style. These books go through a strict survey before they are proven worthy

7. I don’t have an actual TBR pile

Unlike most book bloggers, I don’t have an actual TBR. I just pick books up at the library when they seem interesting.

8. I don’t plan out my blog posts.

I don’t really plan my posts out at all. I only do if it’s a Get In The Know (Wrap up) or a Q&A. Basically anything super important. Otherwise, I just sit down and start typing whatever comes to mind.

9. I’ve met one author.

The only author I’ve met was Erin Hunter, the author of the Warriors, Seekers and Survivors series. Waiting in line for over an hour was totally worth it. That was when I learned that Erin Hunter is not one but six different people under one name. The one I met was named Gillian Phillips.

10. I also love writing

This blog seems to be only about reading but I love writing too. I want to be an author or journalist and love doing writing assignments at school. Writing comes easy to me.

That’s a wrap! Do you relate to any of these facts? Let me know!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for next week’s Top Ten Tuesday!

Writing 101 Day #6 (Late): Space to Work

Hello everyone. As I mentioned in a quick post, I will be trying to do and finish up Writing 101 and Blogging 201 ASAP even though both are over. If you are unfamiliar with this course check out the link here. Today`s prompt is to describe the space you write in. Normally I write in my bedroom. Believe it or not, all I use is my iPad and my notebook dedicated to my blog. I like it to be as quiet as possible though I do enjoy listening to Pandora while writing. Occasionally like I am now, I write on a computer at the local library. I don’t have access to a good quality computer so this is the next best thing. It’s fairly quiet at the library which makes for good solid writing. Google is my friend for any research and pictures. I haven’t figured out how to do fancy pictures and headings because 99% of the good quality programs require a computer. My space isn’t anything fancy but it is what helps shape this blog into what it is today.

We are required to insert a poll at the end of this and collect ideas for future posts for a few weeks. I will do a week or so at the most and try to check back often. Please be honest on what you would like to see.

Thanks for reading and Stay tuned for more!
