Shel Silverstein is such an amazing writer! Even as a teenager, I still  love his poems. When I saw this quote, it reminded me of both books and life. When books end, I`m normally sad especially if it was a good book. When life ends people are sad and upset. That`s why we need a happy middle and a very happy start 🙂

Writing 101 Day #5: Twitter Inspiration

Hello everyone! Today I will be doing Day 5 of Writing 101. If you are unfamiliar with this 4 week course, then I suggest that you check out the link here. I am currently trying to catch up on my Writing 101. These were sent out a while ago. Today’s objective is to take a Twitter quote post from the ones that have been provided and respond to it.

My chosen Twitter quote:

image

My response: I 100% agree with this quote from Lev Grossman. I am still trying to get a novel started but can’t get enough motivation to start. Novelists have the hardest time with writing in my opinion. Not because they are terrible with it, but because they have to deal with, think about, and write it all the time. Writers have to put a lot more thought into what they are writing and/or typing then others. There obviously is some exceptions to this opinion but for the most part it’s true! Every good novelist struggles with writing and then succeeds. Nobody is perfect at first. That’s why it takes years to write an incredible novel.

What do you think about this quote? Do you agree or disagree? Tell me what you think and why below!

Thanks for reading and Stay tuned for more!

Writing 101 Day #2: Lists

Hello everyone! Today is Day #2 of Writing 101. If you didn’t see my post about Writing 101, I suggest you check out the link here. Today’s objective is to write a list about things I like, things I’ve learned, and things I wish. I’m going to do a List of 10 things I’ve learned from books in no particular order.

10 Things I’ve Learned from Books:

  1. Things are not as they always seem to be.

This means not to “judge a book” by its cover and take time to get to know the person. It can also apply to the context of secrets are hiding everywhere.

2. Loss of a family member can be turned into something good.

I don’t mean anything mean or bad by this. This means to me that when a loved one passes away, you can remember them by looking at old photos and sharing happy memories with others. Then you’ll hopefully feel a bit better.

3. Some people are stronger then they seem.

Dont judge someone by their apperance. Not everyone is strong physically but sometimes the ones that are the quietest and seemingly weakest are the ones that turn out stronger then the rest.

4. Friendship can be everything.

If you stay loyal and true to your friends, you will never be alone and will have someone to lean on through good and bad times. Only if they stay loyal as well. True friends don’t stab you in the back.

5. Even the “smartest” people have a lot more to learn.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Nobody is perfect no matter how perfect someone may seem.

6.  Friends can be found in the most unlikely places.

The people who seem extremely different can become your best friend. Anything is possible.

7. Not every person is who they seem to be.

Some people hide their true identities because of fear, insecurity, or regret. You might be surprised who someone turns out to be.

8. Perseverance is key.

Without perseverance, even every day life can get tough and complicated.

9. Never give up on your goal.

If you give up, you can miss something that could have changed you and/or your life forever.

10. Watch you back!

Don’t trust just anyone. If you do then it can come back and nip you in the heel later on.

These themes can all be found and applied in real life too.

Thanks for reading and Stay tuned for more!

Writing 101 Day #1: Why Do I Write?

Hello everyone! Today I am beginning Writing 101. If you want all the details about the four week course I suggest that you check out this link here or my previous post. Today’s prompt is: Why Do I Write? I am indeed doing this as a free write but will not be doing the 15-30 minute timer. I will just be writing as much as I can for as long as I want.

I write because it’s one of my passions. Writing helps me release my stress. My anger, and my happiness. I write to create. To create new characters that are as unique as you and me. I write for enjoyment. Writing story upon story filled with adventure, fantasy, and humor. Poems upon poems filled with lines, rhyme, and word play. Whether it be assigned or for fun, I throw everything I have into it. In terms of writing for my blog, I have been trying to plan ahead of time because of how much homework and how busy I already have/am. My first week of school has passed and I am going to do whatever I can to post as much as I can. I love to write about things that I enjoy and love. In my case that is books, reading and writing. On my blog I have written 70 posts including this one. Those 70 posts have been written since June 2015. My blog is an enjoyment but also a chore if I put too much on my plate at once. I try to make blogging something to look forward to, not to dread. The bottom line to all this is this: I write for enjoyment. I have loved to write for quite a long time and would love to be an author. I hope that everyone that reads my blog posts will learn something new, whether it be about me or the topic.

That’s it! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s topic plus Creative Challenges.

Creative Challenges: Life’s Speeding Past.

Hi everyone! Tomorrow I start school so my posting schedule is going to be changing. I can’t believe how fast the summer went! Today is Creative Challenge Day 🙂 If you are not familiar with Creative Challenges, then here’s a run through: Creative Challange is a weekly challenge run by Cynthia Dawn. You can check out her blog here. Creative Challenges happens every Tuesday and Friday and is received by email. One challenge is for everyone and the other is exclusively for her email subscribers. Cynthia simply sends you a prompt and you make a story using a personal experience or like I do, a story with a fictional character.

Today’s prompt: Life is Speeding past you. How do you keep up?

My Story:

The name’s Max, Max Willis. I’m just your average middle school boy. Crazy, obnoxious, and sports crazy. I play baseball for the school team. The New Orleans Raptors. I’m the star pitcher. My sister Savanna plays volleyball for the New Orleans Newts. Don’t ask me why the chose a name like that for a volleyball team! Savanna and I love to volunteer at the local library by shelving books. Savanna’s a total bibliophile. Me, I think I’ll stick to my comics. As you can imagine, life has really been speeding by. Summer’s already over and tomorrow I’m starting 8th grade. Savanna’s starting 10th, and our little brother Harper is starting preschool. Of course our mom is babying him way more then she needs to.

I have all my school supplies ready and by my mom’s orders, my outfit for tomorrow laid out. Oops I guess I forgot to mention that I already have started playing football and have practice after school tomorrow. I have no idea how I’m going to juggle volunteering, homework, school, football practice… The list goes on and on. Life is just going by too quickly. It seems like just yesterday, Harper was learning to walk. Now he’s on his way to preschool to make some friends.

MAX! DINNER TIME!” Oops I better get going. Mom’s making her famous baked potato salad and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Rushing down the carpeted stairs, I pause to check out my new hair cut. Hopefully Zoe will dig my new do!

“Ughhhhhh, Max! How slow can you be? My sister Savanna is almost 16 and she acts like it. Her phone is always in her right hand. She’s always texting her friend Sarah; and of course her boyfriend Chris. Mom doesn’t like us writing at dinner. See you soon!

Finally I’m back! Mom got me a calendar to hang on my wall. She told me to use it to organize my week. Savanna just rolled her eyes. She has everything organized down to her sock drawer. I guess that’s how I’ll keep up with my crazy life. My brother Harper already has an admirer. Figures, he’s been a ladies man since he started going to daycare at 2 months. My life is a crazy whirlwind of activity, but now I can keep up thanks to my mom and her clearance shopping.

Thanks for Reading and Stay tuned for next week’s  Creative Challenge Day that takes place every Monday.

Creative Challenges #3: Coffee

It’s time for another Creative Challenges! Here’s the ping back to the original page with the prompt: http://www.cynthiadawn.net/creative-challenges-coffee/#comment-72

Cynthia Dawn is an amazing person who sends out 2 creative challenges a week. Creative Challenges are prompts that are very different and unpredictable each time. You use the prompt in anyway you choose and write it using a personal experience or like I always do, a fictional character.

Prompt: Write a scene with a crisis involving coffee.

My story:

Savanna Willis was on her way to her doom. The place that people who were bad had nightmares about. A place that sent shivers up your spine and sweat dripping down your forehead. Most people would laugh when they realize how much she had been exaggerating. Their laughter was cut off like a orange being cut with a knife when they heard who she was going to see. Savanna felt as if she may just keep traveling and traveling for endless hours. Until the car stopped  in front of the mansion of a mastermind. A man who was six feet 7 inches tall, who only went in public dressed in head to toe black, and had servants do everything from bathing him to cooking his every meal. Or in Savanna’s case, she was going to be packaging coffee for hours on end. Packaging coffee for a man who is known as “The Joker.” You may think that I’m pulling your leg, but Savanna, in just a few minutes was going to meet the foolish villain in flesh and blood.

Savanna took a long deep breath and let it out with a woosh as the car door opened. The house seemed to have a strange glow to it and dark clouds loomed over the roof. Beyond the house was sunny and beautiful blue skies. Only gloom existed here. Just like in horror movies. Savanna was escorted to the door and ordered to ring the door bell. “DING DONG DING!!!!” sang the doorbell almost breaking Savanna’s ear drums. “Creakkkk!” The door slowly opened and a small man stood before her.

“Come with meh mah dear!” The man commanded in his thick accent. Savanna could feel her arm hair stand on end as she was lead down 5 flights of stairs. The lights flickered above the stairs. “Creakkkk!” went yet another door. They needed to oil these doors! The room before her was dimly lit and was filled with rows of tables and you guessed it, coffee beans. Savanna was lead once again by the small man who said she was to call him Bean. A door sat in the corner of the room. It was painted a goolish black and had real spikes sticking out from the other side. One wrong move and you could  end up with those spikes coming out of you. “Creeeeak!” These doors were really getting to Savanna but she sighed and followed bean into a small room that contained a desk, chair, and about a million filing cabinets.

“Hello my pretty!” A voice boomed from the corner of the room making Savanna jump out of her skin.

” You must be the little girl who I enlisted to package my wonderful coffee called Joker’s Jungle Pain!” Savanna gulped and gave a small nod.

You can get to work little girl.”

“The name’s Savanna…”

“Ah yes, Savanna! Like I said you can get to work right away!” His voice echoed throughout the small room. How was that possible? Nobody would ever know.

“Bean can show you what to do but I can assure you, it should be fairly straight forward.” He gave his signature laugh. Savanna slowly followed Bean out of the room and into the huge room. Bean explained everything that was to be done. As soon as he could tell that Savanna understood everything that was to be done, he rushed off with his shirt tails flying. Hours past and sweat poured down Savanna’s head like an endless river. Suddenly the lights flickered as soon as Savanna started to pack the bags full of coffee beans. She turned on the conveyer belt and the lights when out. “Oh no! I can’t make sure the coffee beans go in the correct direction!” was all that Savanna could think. *Bang, Sssssss* The sound of hundreds of coffee beans falling all over the floor filed the room. Of course the lights came back on and mountains of coffee beans coated the floor.

“SAVANNA!” The Jokers voice echoed throughout the large mansion. What a coffee disaster this turned out to be.

Creative Challenge #2: An Extraordinary Pet

Hello everyone! Today I am bringing you my second Creative Challenge post. This is an event that happens 1-2 times a week and is hosted by the amazing Cynthia Dawn @ http://www.cynthiadawn.net/ There doesn’t seem to be a page for me to pingback to the original post for this prompt. This event is basically when you get a prompt by email or by going to her blog. You can write the prompt using a personal experience/ you as the main character or a fictional character.

Today`s prompt: Write a Story about an Extraordinary Pet

My story:

Savanna Willis is Florida. How did she get there? Well that’s a story for another time. Savanna is alone in a deep and dismal forest near Orlando, Florida. Savanna knows that forests aren’t what you normally think of when you think of Florida. You think of sizzling sand, clear blue ocean waves brushing the shore, and most likely Disney World with all its wonderful magic and characters galore. Savanna isn’t having a magical time. She is on a mission of a lifetime when she spots a glowing building on the horizon. “What could it be?” Is the only thought that comes into her mind. She takes a step and feels a strange tinkling creep up her leg. She looks down and sees an extraordinary sight. A minute animal sits at her feet, tickling her with its tiny tentacles. It’s like nothing Savanna has ever seen before. It is furry, so furry that all you see is 2 marble sized eyes, a smirking little mouth, and of course those blue tentacles. Savanna reaches down and gives it a little tap with her gloved hand. *WHIMPER!* A sad sound escapes from the mystery creatures mouth. Savanna instantly feels tears fill up her eyes like rain to a bucket. Suddenly out of the corner of her green grass eyes she sees a figure appear out of behind a tree. It approaches Savanna and the furry creature with caution.

“Nah who do yah think yah may be?!” The strange figure muttered in a strange Southern accent.

” I am Savanna. Who are you and do you know what this…thing is?” I say while pointing a trembling finger at the creature who has drifted off to sleep.

“I ‘m Kirk. Kirk Oswald. This here “creature” is mah pet sasquid. It’s a bahby  right now which is wah it is so small. As you may halve guessed, this is a Sasquatch (big foot) and squid mix. When yah tickle it it releases a dark an’ gooey ink substance. I call him Dawson and he is my pet.” All I could do was stand there in shock. In front of me was an extraordinary hybrid pet. One that no man (or women) had ever seen before. Kirk here had such an extraordinary pet all I could do was stare as he tipped his hat, swooped up the sasquid in his arms, and disappeared in the direction of the glowing building in the distance.

Thanks for reading my prompted story and Stay Tuned for more of these fun prompts!

Blogging for a month!

Hey everybody! Today is my 1 month anniversary of beginning to blog. On June 23rd, Genie Wishes inspired me to begin blogging. So as you can see, I did. I just posted a random post at that time. I was a noob blogger so I had no idea what was going on. At the beginning I had doubted myself. I wasn’t sure if I was really going to get anywhere. Now on July 23rd, 1 month later, I’m doing pretty darn well in my opinion.

Goals:

1. To make it to 100 followers

I don’t have a set date that I want to get 100 followers by but I think it will be sooner than I originally thought. I gain at least a follower every 1-3 days. I don’t care how long it takes, I’m just going to keep bringing you content for the rest of the summer and through the school year as much as I can. I know that together, we can reach this huge goal!

2. To continue to post frequently

This does relate to the top one in some ways. I just want to keep bringing everyone new content as frequently as I can manage. It might be written that day or scheduled a week ago. Either way I promise or at least hope that I can continue posting as much as I have been. It’s going to be a big task but I’m going to try.

3. To continue to comment on other blogs

I understand how much feedback, comments, likes, and follows can really impact someone’s self esteem and overall blog. Other blogs definitely show me how talented and smart other people are. I know for a fact that some people might give up blogging but the people I know power through no matter what.

4. Last but not least, I want to use a bigger variety of things in my posts.

This last one may be simple but it’s tough for me. I want to add more varieties of pictures like tweets or Instagram photos. Anything that can really make my blog stand out. At the very least I want to have at least one picture in every post. Sometimes I fail at that. I want to just try to my hardest.

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you have enjoyed this post and I hope you really enjoy your next milestone whether it be a week or 5 years, celebrate it to matter how long you’ve been blogging! I love each and everyone one of my followers and viewers. Stay tuned for more new content!

Blog Introduction and Who I am!

Hello Everyone! My name is Makayla. Or Makayla the Bookworm as I sign my posts. I have been blogging since June 23rd so for almost 2 weeks. The point of this blog is to share my love of books and writing with the world in a fun way. I do book reviews, guides/tips about different things, movie reviews, and so much more that will be revealed in time. I was inspired to start a blog by the book Genie Wishes by Elisabeth Daul. It features a young class blogger who through out the book finds herself. I am not a new blogger. So far I have posted 11 posts including this one, got five followers, and over 70 all time views from all over the world. I hope to eventually get to at least 100 followers if possible, get more likes and comments, as well as more views of my content. I don’t give out personal information since that’s not what my blogs about. Just this summer alone, I have read 12-14 books and always love to be included in my local libraries summer reading program. I try to add visuals to be posts to make them more appealing and relaxing. I love to connect with my viewers and followers, will always comment back, and am open to ideas for my blog.

Thanks for reading my updated introduction to myself and my blog. I hope you have learned a bit about me and my blog. Stay tuned for new blogs almost every day as part of my Blogging 101 course.
